SERVICES: WHAT THEY ARE AND WHY THEY MAY BE REQUESTED

Child Impact Assessment
A focused, child-centred assessment of how separation, conflict, risk concerns or proposed parenting arrangements are affecting a child. It may assist parents, legal representatives or the Court to understand the child’s experiences, developmental needs, safety and emotional wellbeing.

Family Assessment
An independent assessment of family relationships, parenting capacity, the child’s needs and identified risks. It may assist decisions about parenting arrangements, parental responsibility, time with each parent and measures required to protect the child’s welfare.

Complex or High-Risk Family Assessment
A detailed assessment for matters involving significant conflict, family violence, abuse allegations, mental health concerns, substance misuse, entrenched disputes or multiple risk factors.

Parenting Capacity Assessment
Assesses a parent’s ability to meet a child’s physical, emotional, developmental and safety needs, including caregiving, insight, stability and decision-making.

Capacity to Protect Assessment
Assesses a parent or caregiver’s ability to recognise risk, respond protectively and keep a child safe where there are concerns about sexual harm, physical abuse, family violence, neglect or exposure to unsafe people.

Mental Health Screening and Brief Report
A structured screening of current symptoms, functioning, stressors and support needs. Screening is not, by itself, a formal diagnosis.

Domestic and Family Violence Assessment
Examines reported patterns of coercion, control, intimidation and abuse and their effects on adults and children, with attention to safety and protective needs.

Violence Risk Assessment
Considers factors associated with future violence, protective factors and practical risk-management needs.

Sexual Offending and Internet-Based Offending Assessments
Specialist forensic social work assessments addressing sexual offending history or online offending, relevant risks, treatment needs, protective factors and community risk management.

Harassment and Stalking Risk Assessment
Examines repeated unwanted contact, fixation, pursuit or threatening behaviour and assists with escalation risk, safety planning and management recommendations.

General Reoffending and Recidivism Risk Assessment
Considers factors associated with further offending, protective factors, rehabilitation needs and practical risk-management recommendations for sentencing, supervision, treatment or other criminal justice decisions.

Pre-Sentence Report
Provides relevant psychosocial background, mental health and functioning information, rehabilitation prospects, risk considerations and intervention options to assist a court at sentencing.

Trauma and Psychosocial Injury Assessment
Examines the mental health, social and functional effects of trauma, victimisation, workplace bullying, accidents or other adverse events, including treatment needs, rehabilitation and effects on daily life and work.

Child-Inclusive Family Dispute Resolution
A child-focused process that allows a child’s experiences and needs to inform parental decision-making without placing the child in the position of choosing between parents.

SERVICES FOR CRIMINAL LAWYERS AND CORRECTIVE SERVICES

Referrals may include adult and youth pre-sentence and mitigation reports; violence, sexual-offending and general reoffending risk; trauma and psychosocial injury; rehabilitation and intervention recommendations; parole or release planning where appropriate; offending-behaviour intervention; emotional-regulation work; community reintegration and risk management; Good Behaviour Bond and restorative programs; court preparation and evidence. Each engagement is confined to the agreed questions and Prof Robinson’s expertise as a Clinical and Forensic Mental Health Social Worker.

ORGANISATIONAL SAFEGUARDING CONSULTANCY

Tailored support is available for child-safe and vulnerable-person safeguarding, family violence and coercive-control training, responding to sexual misconduct or abuse allegations, risk management, protective-practice consultation, policy and procedure review, trauma-informed communication, interviewing children and vulnerable people, and independent case consultation.

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND WORKSHOPS

Training may address investigative and child-sensitive interviewing, high-conflict family disputes, child sexual abuse and false allegations, trauma-informed forensic practice, family violence and coercive control, risk formulation and management, schema-informed work with complex presentations, court reports and evidence, victim-survivor practice, gender-based violence and human rights. Training and consultancy are individually quoted.

WHO MAY REFER

Referrals are welcomed from courts and tribunals; solicitors, barristers and Independent Children’s Lawyers; government departments and child-protection agencies; police, corrections and community supervision services; health, mental health and social service professionals; schools and safeguarding organisations; insurers and employers where appropriate; and individuals or families seeking an independent service.

REFERRAL GUIDANCE AND COMMUNICATION

Please email the referral questions, purpose of the report, relevant court dates and orders, the person or parties to be assessed, a short summary of the issues and known risks, the proposed letter of instruction, available records, intended recipients and responsibility for fees. Begin with a concise enquiry rather than sending original documents.

Email is the preferred method of communication. This provides a clear and transparent record of instructions, helps avoid misunderstandings and supports the independence and integrity of the assessment or professional process. Telephone discussions can be arranged where necessary, but material instructions and changes to scope should be confirmed in writing.

IMPORTANT PROFESSIONAL SCOPE

Prof Tanya Robinson is a Clinical and Forensic Mental Health Social Worker, Psychotraumatologist, Victimologist, Accredited Mediator and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. She is not a psychologist. Services are described as forensic social work, mental health, family, child, risk and psychosocial assessments within her professional scope.

WHAT MAY AFFECT THE FINAL FEE

The number of adults, children and other people requiring interview; the volume and complexity of court, subpoenaed, medical or professional material; collateral interviews or specialist measures; travel, accommodation or venue expenses; urgent timeframes or work outside ordinary practice hours; supplementary questions or reports; and court preparation, conferences, waiting time and attendance.

All stated fees include GST and remain subject to written confirmation. The scope and fee must be agreed before work commences. Work outside the agreed scope will not be undertaken without further written instructions and confirmation of the applicable fee.
